Specialist Homelessness Services Quality Assurance Service

Specialist Homelessness Services in NSW can use the online system, Standards & Performance Pathways (SPP), to meet the NSW Specialist Homelessness Services (SHS) Standards as required under the new Quality Assurance System.

The SPP is an easy-to-use online quality management system that helps NGOs and service provider organisations complete assessments against community services and health standards, as well as efficiently meet compliance reporting requirements. Users report an 80% saving in time using the SPP.

Standards available on the SPP

  • NSW Specialist Homelessness Services (SHS) Standards
  • National Community Housing Standards
  • National Regulatory Code for Community Housing
  • Other major community services and health standards at national and state/territory levels

How the SPP works

  • Automatically builds an electronic work plan based on responses to online assessments.
  • Provides guides, policy templates and pro forma to help complete any required action.
  • Stores any uploaded documentation as part of an electronic ‘evidence pack’.
  • Shows how your organisation is tracking against industry benchmarks.
  • A complementary email alert service that lets you know of any changes to standards.

If you work with multiple standards, the SPP streamlines the work by only requiring you to complete an assessment once. It then does the rest of the work for you by automatically completing corresponding assessments in other standards.

For lead agencies that have responsibility for the quality of partner agencies, the SPP is also available as a multi-service account or portal. This enables the organisation to set up assessment and monitoring areas for each service, generate work plans specifically for each service, and manage organisational level assessment and evidence documentation, and monitor progress on compliance.

Where SHS want additional face to face assistance in working through and meeting quality assurance requirements, BNG recommends Sue Cripps, CEO of SC Consulting Group, a social policy, strategy and change management consultancy with specialist knowledge and experience in homelessness, housing support, mental health and community service. Sue is accredited in using the SPP and is BNG’s preferred consultant in working with SHS. For more information or to contact Sue Cripps: www.scconsultinggroup.com.au.
